“Sixteen-year-old Regan Clark only longs for the summer camp trip her dad takes her and her three brothers in each year. But everything changes when the unimaginable happens—her best friend, and acquired fourth brother, Harper, turns into a big cheat and she gets cast aside. So when school starts again, Regan finds herself friendless, struggling with soccer practice and on the verge of failing math. On top of that, Harper’s own issues lead him to move in with the Clarks, which makes it impossible to hide all the bad blood between them. But meeting Sophie turns into a mindblower, for Regan’s introduced to the strange world of girls she’s been missing out until now. And, much to her dismay, she soon finds out what hurts the most about losing her best friend—to be secretly in love with him.”

-Swoon Reads Synopsis

THIS BOOK IS MY KIND OF READ! Seriously, I was so excited when I started reading the book. There are parts that my heart is flinching and beating so fast and there are parts that makes me smiling to myself! 😝

original (1)

I’m not sure if I can say it’s an enemiestolovers regarding that Regan and Harper had always been best friends. 👫 The friendship between them gets shaky after the summer camp and I guess from that, they somehow become enemies—at least, that’s what Regan refers to considering I am reading through her point of view and not Harper.

Anyway, I’m a bit disappointed that Zøe doesn’t really press on Regan missing out the girl’s world. Well, it had said many times that Regan always spend time with her brothers and Harper since they were kids, but not the part where she is being introduced to the world of girls. Like, she just lives a normal life and not just exposed by boy’s world. I guess it’s okay if the synopsis doesn’t claim like it is.

This book is still in pre-publishing phase, so I’m not gonna say anything about the writing errors. And I guess, it’s not a place for me to talk about it… right? 👀

But anyway, I really want to point out how awesome Zøe’s writing is! I’ve read her debut novel before and I can see how her writing have changed. It is raw and fresh. In her debut novel; Just For a While, I’ve mentioned the writing doesn’t really have the special beauty, but this one, it does! Apart from the good story plot, the writing is also the one that makes me not wanting to put it down. 😝

Here’s a secret: I read this in one long road trip and even though my eyes keep chasing the words on my phone from the bumpy roads, I still keep on reading it because it is that good and worth it.💗

The only problem I have is, I have a bit hard time on processing every time Regan rolls her eyes.. too much? It’s actually not necessary to put it that way. My eyes hurt too from rolling 😂

Regan is failing Math and soon realized she have a romantic feelings with Harper. The romantic part is what I’m actually looking forward to but I can relate that she is failing Math. 😂 Also, I can feel how hurt she is by Harper and if I’m in her situation, I will also feel confused and heartbroken. In all ways, I hate how her brothers and father being unfair to her. I feel really mad when her father is giving her punishments without even considering her feelings. I’m just really glad Regan can handle everything and not get a mental breakdown. Apart from that, she is really a thoughtful friend. Even when Harper keeps messing with her, especially her feelings, she still cares about him. 💓 And when Sophie got hurt, she is willing to get an idea for a revenge even if it means being a traitor. 😏

Harper. Oh. My. God! 😱 img_1651I knew Harper is going to be my favorite! I know it’s cliché regarding the way he treats Regan but I don’t care. I am SO into all things platitudes! Harper is that person who have problem handling his own emotions from his actions. Truthfully, he is very annoying throughout the book but the annoyance doesn’t really annoyed me—because it’s supposed to be for Regan—but for me, I think he’s kind of… playful? 🤔 And what makes me more attracted in him is, he is mysterious. 🤨 I’m not sure whether he is supposed to be mysterious but I found that he is hard to predict. One time, he is like this. Another time, he is like that. And he doesn’t really show a lot of emotions apart of clenching his jaw and balling his fist; mad. Not to mention he is always put on an invisible mask to hide his emotions.

Sophie. Gosh, this girl sure is bubbly. 🌸 She is so joyful and easygoing. Though, I found that she can be a bit sensitive. Anyways, Sophie is supposed to be someone who lacks of social life, but it’s hard to resist that as she is always so happy and exciting. Like, if you don’t know her, you must think she is that girl who have different bunch of friends. Everywhere she go, she looks like she just got off from meeting her group of friends but actually she was just from the class. How is a person always so happy like this?! 😫 I’m jelly!

Landon and Eric are the older twin brothers of Regan. I am really sorry to say this but I think the brothers are fake like they’re forced to be in the scene. I know they are supposed to be the noisy and naughty twin brothers, but.. there’s something lacking the way they talk. Maybe it’ll be great if these two characters loosen up a bit with the talking-while-teasing-Regan-together. It’s only getting better at the falling action and the resolution. I like them more at there and I finally used to the chemistry between them. Anyways, I am so interested with Landon’s love story even though he is annoying 😂

So, since this book makes my feelings all over the places, I am giving it a solid 5 star!  Yet another wonderful book in my life. 🤤 I really really hope this book will get published because duh, the story sure makes me awake from my days. And because, it deserves a recognition to all readers who love contemporary out there. 🌸 Plus, this book makes me happy and I love it! 💕
